This section cuts through the major arch of the fan shaped body (or superior arch) of the central body complex. Just anterior to this, a dorsal component of the ellipsoid body can be seen and anterior again, the ventral bodies. Surrounding the ventral bodies are the alpha lobes of the mushroom bodies. The central body complex is encompassed posteriorly by the two pedunculi of the mushroom bodies. Lateral to these lie the lateral horn, lateral and medial protocerebra.
