Several tracts carry the axons of projection neurons from the antennal lobes. This reconstruction is from the alignment and fusion of 12 consecutive optical sections to illustrate part of the antennal deutocerebral tract (a deut c) and three strands of the antennocerebral tract. The inner tract (i act) carries axons to the lateral horn (l ho) which branch en route into the calyces (ca) of the ipsilateral mushroom body. Also shown are Kenyon cell axons in the pedunculus (ped) beneath the calyces. The lateral horn is also supplied from the antennal lobe directly by axons of the two tributaries of the medial antennocerebral antennal glomerular tract (m act 1,2). The antennal lobe is shown with dendrites in three glomeruli (ant gl). Note the distinctive appearance of each. The high-resolution images can be achieved by clicking on the blue frame of this version. Selected details can be seen by clicking on the areas indicated. The midline of this reconstructions shows elements of the central body complex's noduli.
