Several classes of ring-shaped terminal arbors invade the ellipsoid body arising from cell bodies (cb) in the lateral anterior rind. This element is bistratified; others are unistratified. Typically these neurons give rise to an enigmatic swelling (here termed the ellipsoid body's lateral glomerulus (eb.l.gl) which Hanesch et al. (1989) refer to as the "lateral triangles.") which can easily be mistaken for a perikaryon.
