Reconstruction of the giant fiber dendritic tree. As in larger flies (J. P. Bacon and N. J. Strausfeld. (1986) J. Comp. Physiol A. 158:529-548), this neuron underlying the mid-leg extension circuit has a tripartite organization. The downward branch receives primary mechanosensory inputs (mech sens), the central part receives endings of columnar neurons from the lobula and the upper part is connected to giant commissural neurons connected to the contralateral GDN. Enhancer trap lines reveal all the major components of the Giant fiber circuit.
