Sagittal View of Kenyon Cells
Saggital view of the mushroom body showing axons projecting from the calyx (ca) through the pedunculus (ped) to the vertical lobe (V). The two arrows in the upper panel indicate two of four bundles of identical Kenyon cells the axons of which branch to project through the medial lobe (M) and the vertical lobe (V) where they form a whorl of varicose terminals at its tip (arrow). These axons contribute to the a and b subdivisions of the calyx.
