Giant Fiber Layering in the Lobula Plate |
| Help SiteNavigator Index Where Am I? Search Page Status | Contact Us |

Two consecutive optical stacks (horizontal sections) showing layering of "giant" tangential neurons in the lobula plate. In the second figure, the outer layer is seen receiving the terminal of the H1 heterolateral (horizontal motion-sensitive) neuron (Eckert, H. (1980) J. Comp. Physiol [A]. 135:29-39). The inner layer contains dendrites of homolateral VS cells (vertical motion-sensitive neurons). The layers can be usefully compared with layers 1 and 3, revealed in Cajal reduced silver preparations of the lobula plate.
