Dendritic trees of three vertical motion-sensitive neurons in the lobula plate (frontal sections). Compare these with the homologous cell type in a larger fly (Calliphora erythrocephala) from which much of our knowledge about the structure and physiology of these cells has been obtained (Strausfeld, N. J., and U .K. Bassemir. (1985b) Cell Tissue Res. 240:16-40; Hengstenberg, R. (1982) J. Comp. Physiol. [A] 149:179-193; Krapp, H.G., and R. Hengstenberg (1996). Nature 384:463-466).
