The same section as Y= -6, but more deeply focused, showing a lateral fascicle that can be followed from the inferior lateral deutocerebrum upwards to beneath the lateral horn. This fascicle is equivalent to the posterior lateral fascicle (p. l. fasc) described from Musca. Through its passage it recruits fibres from the lobula belonging to projection neurons that eventually invade protocerebrum lateral to the calyces.
At this level, the protocerebral bridge (pr.br) is revealed as a heterolateral mid-line neuropil lying in front of the large axons of ocellar projection neurons (ocl.n) descending into the brain. The protocerebral bridge is connected to the ellipsoid body by a complex arrangement of ipsi- and heterolateral tracts arising from its pallisade of dendritic trees.
Postorally, suboesophageal neuropils are connected heterolaterally by one of a series of tracts running just beneath the oesophagous.
