Here, the obvious retinotopic organization of the lobula contrasts with wide-field tangential neurons (w.f.tan.n) within its deeper layers. The coarsening of the original medullary mosaic is suggested by the aggregation of fibres from the second optic chiasma. These correspond to the spacing of columnar neurons shown in the next section, at Y= -9.
