The lobula plate contrasts with the lobula, being typified by tangentially arranged neurons as opposed to columnar neurons. Here, a large axon of the most dorsal horizontal motion-sensitive giant neurons (HSN) is seen leaving the lobula plate for the postero-lateral deutocerebrum.
