At this level, the second of three HS neurons (the equatorial HS, or HSE) can be seen. HS dendrites reside at the outer (distal) surface of the lobula plate. But because this series sections obliquely through the lobula plate's depth, the deeper vertical motion sensitive neurons (VS neurons) are also visible. The axons of these elements project into the dorsal deutocerebrum.
