At the level of the oesophagous's penetration through the brain, the antennal lobes are flanked by the inferior protocerebral lobes (i. pr. lob; see also vertical section y = 1.4) and just caudal to them, the ventrolateral deutocerebral lobes. Lateral optic glomeruli (optic foci) (l. op. gl) are supplied by axons of columnar neurons from the lobula. Neuropils of the posterior medial deutocerebrum (p. m. deut) are connected by two diffuse fascicles (suboesophageal fascicles 1, 2; su. oes. fasc. 1, 2). Tritocerebral neuropil flanks the oesophageous, behind the antennal lobes. At this level, median bundle axons (m. bdl) flank the inner edges of the antennal lobes.
