The paired antennal lobes are connected by successive fibre bundles (antennal lobe commissures; ant. lob. c. 1-3). These can also be seen in vertical sections (levels Y = 1.4, 1.0). The commissures either carry axons of olfactory receptor neurons that innervate both antennal lobes or they carry the axons of antennal lobe interneurons connecting the two lobes. This level of focus demonstrates the projections of the axons of the giant descending neuron (g. dn. ax) and other members of the GDN cluster.
