This level of focus shows, laterally, the posterior optic tract (p. op. t; originating anteriorly from the Cuccati bundle of the medulla), the large lobe of the inferior lateral protocerebrum (i. l. pr) which is separated from the medial neuropils of the deutocerebrum by the horizontal fascicle of the deutocerebrum (h. fasc. deut). Caudally, neuropils targeted by lobula plate efferents are here represented by the posterior slope (p. sl). Also at this level is seen the root of the antennal glomerular tract (r. ant. gl. t) which will project upwards through the + z series into the mushroom body calyx.
A small tract connects the left and right tritocerebral neuropils (tritocerebral commissure: tr. c). A condensed tract of axons (the descending antennal glomerular tract; desc. ant. gl. t) extends obliquely and ventrally from the lateral margin of each antennal lobe to the tritocerebrum or the suboesophageal ganglion. Cross sections of large descending neurons are indicated (dn).
