At this level, the inferior medial protocerebrum (i. m. pr) is linked to the tritocerebrum (tr) by a posterior tract of large fibers (p. tr. m. pr) that projects just under the sub ellipsoid connective (su. e. con) that runs just posterior to the deepest part of the mushroom body's beta-lobe, immediately beneath the ellipsoid body (next section + z).

At this level, the left and right strands of the median bundle have coalesced into the vertically ascending bundle (m. bdl) destined for neuropil of the superior medial protocerebrum. Likewise, the antennal glomerular tract (ant. gl. t) is also visible in cross section.

Both lobulas are shown providing a prominent tract of axons (v. t. lo) derived from columnar efferent neurons that target a lateral optic focus (glomerulus: lob. op. gl) tucked behind the large lateral lobe of the inferior protocerebrum (l. lob. i. pr). The axons are derived from columnar neurons of the lobula.

A giant descending neuron relaying information from the ocellar interneurons and vertical cells is indicated (dnovs).
