The superior lateral protocerebrum and the calyces are the remaining neuropils visible at this and the next level. Note, however, the very large cell bodies in the pars intercerebralis and the profusion of smaller cell bodies either side of the pars. These in large part contribute to the many hundreds of local interneurons of protocerebral regions.
