The median bundle carries axons to the superior medial protocerebrum (s m pr). At this level the m bdl splits into two major streams, anterior (a) and posterior (p). The midbrain neuropils of the central complex are here shown as the upper (u) and lower (l) profiles of the torus-like ellipsoid body, lying above one of the two noduli (no). The fan-shaped body, and above it the superior arch, lie immediately behind the ellipsoid body. The protocerebral bridge (pr br) lies at the back of the brain and receives axons from the ascending tract of the protocerebral bridge (asc t pr br).
