The superior lateral protocerebrum is supplied by axons bundles from many other regions, including the antennal lobes, via the lateral tract of the inner antennocerebral tract (l act). Note also the passage of single large fibers between the output bundles from the lobula and regions of the lateral frontal (l-f pr) and inferior lateral protocerebrum (i-fr pr). In the optic lobes, the medulla reveals its two major components: an outer [Me (o)] layer lying distal to the Cuccati bundle (cucc) and an inner layer [Me (i)] beneath it. This bundle contains then main axons and dendritic or terminal branches of tangential neurons, the axons of which leave (or enter) the anterior edge of the medulla to enter the posterior optic tract. Single very large diameter axons of horizontal and vertical tangential cells [lo p tans (vs, hs)] can be seen at the inner edge of the lobula plate.
