The most lateral part of the superior lateral protocerebrum is the lateral horn. This is the terminal destination of axons of antennal lobe projection neurons that ascend to the protocerebrum via the inner antennocerebral tract. This level shows the root and forward projection of the anterior optic tract from the lobula, extending above the lateral lobe of the ventrolateral protocerebrum (v l pr). The lobula plate reveals its typically layered appearance. Tracts of axons between it, the lobula, and the medulla comprise the second optic chiasma (och 2). The lobula (lo) also contains some large tangential neurons (one arrowed) that appear to contribute to the a op t.
