This level shows the lamina (La), the medulla (Me), and the most lateral part of the lobula plate (Lop). Glial cell bodies (gl cb) denote glial barriers between optic cartridges - the synaptic units of the lamina that contain receptor endings and the dendrites of first order projection neurons (monopolar cells).
