This is the third segmental preoral ganglion which, in Drosophila, lies displaced ventrally either side of the gut but not below it. The tritocerebrum is supplied by terminals from the descending strand of the median bundle, and gives rise to neurons that ascend through the same bundle to reach the roof of the protocerebrum. The tritocerebrum, like the more anterior deutocerebrum, also gives rise to descending neurons and receives connections from various regions of the more anterior neuropils.
