Sagittal projections | Frontal projections

Six hardware-blended projections, proceeding from dorsal to ventral in the hemisphere, were made with the extended focus algorithm of Bitplane Imaris.

Anterior is to the bottom left and posterior to the top right in this series.
Red is mab22C10 fluorescence and green is GFP-fluorescence.

Abbreviations used in annotations: os, optic stalk; ioa, inner optic anlage; ed, eye disc; t&c, T&C cell group; x1, outer chiasm; x2, inner chiasm; mc, medulla cortex; lc, lobula complex.

Raw version | annotated version
Projection of photoreceptors into the lamina and of medulla cortex cells to the medulla neuropil.

Raw version | annotated version
One limb of the horseshoe shaped IOA has appeared.

Raw version | annotated version
The outer and inner chiasms are clearly visible in this central section. Developing lamina monopolar cells are GFP labelled. Cells proliferated from the IOA are interwoven with the inner optic chiasm.

Raw version | annotated version
The ventral limb of the IOA becomes visible. The Bolwig nerve can be seen directly posterior to the lamina.

Raw version | annotated version
While the dorsal limb of the IOA is concealed within the hemisphere, the ventral arm reaches out to the surface of the hemisphere.

Raw version | annotated version
A patch of GFP-expressing tissue at the surface of the hemisphere belongs to the IOA.
