The lineage consists of 12 to 18 interneurons forming a cluster in the ventrolateral cortex. Their ipsilateral projections (4-1Ii) extend anteriorly and their contralateral projections cross the anterior (4-1Ica) and posterior commissures (4-1Icp). The 4-1Icp projections develop rather late (mid to end stage 16).
