Axon Reorganization of g Neurons During Metamorphosis

(A-C) Selectively marked g neurons in MB Nb clones were examined 12, 18, and 24 hours after PF. Degeneration of both larval axon lobes occurs shortly after PF (arrows in A). Degradation of g axons is largely limited to the lobes, as axons appear intact through the end of the peduncle (arrow in B). At 24 hours APF, g axons are in the process of re-extending medially to form the adult g lobe (arrow in C). (D) Around 24 hours APF, isolated g neurons were in the process of extending their axons into the g lobe, as suggested by various ending positions of axons (arrows).

All clones were generated in NHL. Arrowheads indicate axon debris and broken lines represent the midline.
